City Nature Challenge @ Melton Park

  • Melton Park 2080 Desmond Drive Decatur, GA, 30033 United States (map)

You’re invited to take part in the City Nature Challenge — an annual four-day global bioblitz!

Join the Friends of Melton Park and Park Pride on Sunday, April 26, at 2pm to enjoy our urban forest in springtime, learn how to use the iNaturalist app, make community science observations, and support metro Atlanta in the 2026 City Nature Challenge! This meetup is welcoming to all ages, from first-time naturalists to seasoned iNat users. No registration is required. Before you come, just charge your smartphone battery, download the iNaturalist app, and set up a user account. We’ll show you what to do next as we observe plants, animals, insects, fungi, and more! Click here for details & to RSVP.

NOTE: Street parking is available in the neighborhood near the intersection of Desmond Drive and Park Lane. We’ll be moving along soft-surface trails, which may include muddy conditions if there is rain before the event.

About the City Nature Challenge: Started in 2016 as a competition between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in their own cities. Run by the Community Science teams at the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and coordinated locally in metro Atlanta by the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, the CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities collaborate to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal.
